Carhartt was founded to produce work clothes for railroad workers.
Its initial growth during the 1890s focused on the need for durable and resistant clothing for this category of workers. Over time, the Carhartt products developed of the distinctive features, designed to extend the resistance, including the use of rugged threads, reinforcing rivets in greater stress points and a range of high-tech materials, flame resistant, to abrasions or water.
